Through the detailed drawings of dense cityscapes, these works explore the tension between the opportunities the city offers and the challenges of living amidst its overwhelming density.
“Monster Building” portrays the towering, tightly packed architecture of Hong Kong. The small patch of sky framed by overwhelming buildings symbolizes the limited breathing space and freedom available to city dwellers. Each window and balcony hints a hidden struggle, capturing the emotional and physical confinement of urban living.
“Gilded Cages” presents a city scene with golden fences woven into the black-and-white urban landscape. The gold represents the appeal of city life, yet also highlights the barriers and restrictions that make it feel like a cage.
